Suspect insists on mug shot with his beloved parrot

HILLSBORO, OREGON — It's something you don't see every day, a police mug shot that includes a big red bird.

The 4-year-old macaw, actually named "Bird," accompanied its owner Craig Buckner to the Washington County Courthouse in Oregon, but remained outside in a tree during the hearing.

Things took a turn for the worst, when Buckner landed in jail for violating the terms of his release agreements.

Expressing concern for his feathered friend still outside in a tree, a security deputy-- also worried about "Bird's" safety and well-being-- decided to allow it inside.

The two jail birds posed for a series of mug shots together, including one that shows the macaw perched on Buckner's shoulder.

One of the deputy's friends agreed to care for "Bird" while Buckner serves his sentence.
