Suspect shot by police after woman is found dead in Pittsburgh street

PITTSBURGH — A suburban woman has been shot dead on a Pittsburgh street and police say they have a suspect in custody after a short vehicle chase.

The Allegheny County medical examiner says the victim is 29-year-old Ja-Nese Jackson Talton, of Penn Hills.

Police responded to an alert issued by ShotSpotter, an automated alarm system that pinpoints gunshots in high-crime areas.

They arrived to find Talton dead just before 2 a.m. Friday.

Police say a man fled the scene in a vehicle as officers arrived.

A police news release says he was shot by police during the pursuit and crashed.

Police have not released that man's name, but say he was taken into custody and treated at a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Police planned to release more information at a news conference.
