Teen pleads guilty in connection with shooting death of 13-year-old friend

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. — A teen accused in the shooting death of a friend earlier this year pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor charges in juvenile court.

Police said the 14-year-old boy shot and killed 13-year-old James Gustafson inside a Mount Pleasant home in March.

"I really want justice for my son and people just need to lock those guns up because there's more and more going on. It's just horrible and no one knows what's going to happen until it does,"  said James’ mother, Leah Gustafson.

The teen pleaded guilty Friday to charges of involuntary manslaughter and gun possession.

"We already had one tragedy here – one life lost. I don't want to see two lost," the presiding judge said.

The boys were at a friend's apartment when the shooting occurred.

Three adults were also charged in connection with the shooting.
