Witnesses rushed to a nearby restaurant to call for help, police said. A doctor, who was inside eating at the time, ran to the injured teenager and provided assistance until paramedics arrived.

Police said the 17-year-old from Peters Township was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

The driver who hit the teenager continued driving before pulling into a National Tire and Battery near the intersection, police said. He then walked to a GetGo, where he was arrested.
