Threat prompts heightened security at Fort Cherry school Monday

Security will be tight at Fort Cherry Junior-Senior High School on Monday because of a threat.

The school will be on lockdown and students have been told to leave their backpacks at home. Lunch boxes and purses may be searched.

The school district is not releasing any specific information about the threat, but officials said they are working with local and state police.

Superintendent Jill M. Jacoby issued the following statement:

"Due to Administration receiving concerning information about school safety at the Junior Senior High School for Monday, the Fort Cherry School District will be implementing heightened security in all buildings this week to increase safety for staff and students.  Students are being asked to not bring backpacks to school on Monday; lunch boxes and purses may be searched.  In working with local and state police, the District has a comprehensive action plan moving into this week of school.

"The Fort Cherry Administration understands parents may have many concerns; however we would like to reassure all parents that the District is working closely with the local and state police to secure the learning environments for all students.  Dr. Jacoby states, "The Fort Cherry School District Administration takes all safety concerns very seriously and student safety is our number one priority."
