Rombold and Amos were allegedly high on methamphetamines and didn’t eat or sleep during their four-day crime spree, which investigators believe started with home burglaries in Crawford and Mercer counties before moving on to a business in Lawrence County.

Police were called shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday for an armed robbery at Cable Hardwoods Inc. on Portersville Road in Perry Township, Lawrence County. Two men were beaten with a gun and a baseball bat.

McClain is a former employee of Cable Hardwoods, police said.

One of the victims, a 60-year-old man, stopped at the business and noticed a shed door was open. Police said he was confronted by two armed individuals who shot at him as he ran to his vehicle and then forced him into an office building.

While the man was held at gunpoint, he was robbed and beaten, police said. He was hit in the head, face and body with a baseball bat and gun. He was also shot at, but investigators believe the gun misfired.

“Guy comes out with a ball bat, he hits me right here in the chest,” said Roy Magee, 84, who is the father-in-law of the other victim.

Magee happened to show up at the business during the assault. He, too, was robbed at gunpoint and was beaten with a gun and baseball bat.

“She started screaming at me, ‘Get on the (expletive) floor! Empty your (expletive) pockets,’” he said.

While on the ground, Magee continued to fight back. He said he knew his son-in-law was badly injured.

“I grabbed a hold of her ponytail,” he said. “She was strong. I tried to grab her artery.”

The suspects fled in an orange 2004 Toyota Scion that belongs to the 60-year-old, who crawled through woods to a nearby home for help, police said.

The 60-year-old was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Magee was taken to Ellwood City Hospital.

The Toyota Scion was found burned in a field. Police said the suspects then fled in one of their vehicles before they stole a 1999 Ford Expedition from a body shop in Ellwood City. The SUV was later found in New Sewickley, Beaver County. %INLINE%

Police tracked the suspects to Cadiz, Ohio, after they stole firearms and a white 2016 Toyota Highlander from a business in Cranberry Township, authorities said.

Rombold, of Ellwood City, was arrested Saturday after a foot chase, police said. Amos, of Cochranton, Crawford County, was arrested Sunday without incident after a brief search through the woods along Route 22.

Amos and Rombold were taken to the Lawrence County Jail on $250,000 bond. They are charged with attempted homicide, among other charges.
