The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents in the South Hills about a phone scam.
Officials said a man claiming to be Lt. Jack Kearney from the Sheriff’s Office called people, saying they were issued a citation for not showing up for federal jury duty. The caller then asked residents to meet him at the Allegheny County Courthouse with a money order to enter a plea bargain.

The Sheriff’s Office said this is a scam and Kearney did not make the calls. The Sheriff’s Office said if you are contacted about a citation, officials will not ask for money orders or gift cards.
