Ambridge teachers accept new contract, will not strike

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — UPDATE (8/18/17): Teachers in the Ambridge School District announced Friday that they have accepted a new contract offer and will not go on strike.

The new contract is a three-year deal. Salary increases had been a sticking point, but Channel 11 News learned that the contract will raise pay by an average of $8,000 through 2020.

The district presented its best, last and final offer to teachers Wednesday night.

Channel 11 reported Friday that an arbitrator ruled teachers should accept it, but that decision is non-binding, meaning teachers can pass on it.

"It really is a fair deal and moving forward for the next three years, it's lucrative for everyone involved and so, we'll have to wait and see,” said Jo Welter, superintendent for Ambridge Area School District.
