Brentwood police officers hold no-confidence vote for chief

On Thursday, Brentwood police officers voted 11 to 1 that they have no confidence in their chief, according to Channel 11 sources.

“I'm not surprised,” said Mayor Dennis Troy. “I've heard some complaints about changes we're making.”

Troy talked to Channel 11 about the vote and those changes.

Chief Adam Zeppuhar was hired in 2015 at a salary of about $106,000 after the previous chief was forced to retire amid allegations that he mismanaged the department.

Sources say now officers have lost faith and confidence in Zeppuhar’s ability to lead the department and morale is very low.

“We're making some changes in the way we manage our resources, the way we deal with overtime, the way we deal with police stops,” Troy said. “The way we deal with the way we conduct and investigate potential thefts.”

When pressed for details, Troy said he wouldn't discuss standard operating procedures.

Sources say part of the issues deal with traffic citations officers issue that are being dismissed.

“I don’t know if (Zeppuhar's) dismissed them,” Troy said. “It gets to matters of scheduling and officers’ time. I wouldn't say we're just getting rid of traffic citations. Might have been one or two.”

When asked why those citations would be dismissed, Troy intimated that they could be a problem.

“Well, I mean, without getting into details, sometimes you expose yourself as an entity, put yourself at great liability,” he said.

Regardless, he backs Zeppuhar, who did not respond to Channel 11's requests to comment.

“We fully support the officers, as I fully support the chief,” he said.
