Butler police seek man who shot at officer

BUTLER, Pa. — Police in Butler are asking for the public’s assistance tracking down a man who they say shot at an officer late Friday night in Memorial Park.

The man was spotted just after 11:30 p.m. in the park, which was closed, police said. When an officer approached the man, a gun was seen in his hand, police said.

“Our officer spotted gun in his hand. He grabbed his arm. A struggle ensued, a shot went off from that weapon the suspect was holding,” said Deputy Chief Dave Adam.

During a struggle, the officer was nearly struck by a shot that was fired by the man, according to police. The man then ran into the woods, police said.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the man, who is described as white and about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt and was possibly covered with mud from the alleged struggle.

Police said the man is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Butler City Police Department by calling 911.
