Communities prepared for latest round of snowfall

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of western Pennsylvania and some areas could see up to 2 inches of snow.

Preparations are being made across the area and, with snow moving in, we have crews checking in with different communities to find out how they're preparing the roads.

Allegheny County

Officials in Ross Township told Channel 11 there will be two salt trucks out covering the roads from 7:30 p.m to 4 a.m., with 18 people on standby.

Managers in McCandless said their action plan starts when the snow does, and they will bring in 11 people to operate nine salt trucks and plows to keep 16 square miles clean.

In Pittsburgh, night crews will be coming in early at 6 p.m., and around 60 trucks will be on the roads throughout the evening.

Washington County

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews in Washington told Channel 11 they're ready for Thursday night's snowfall.

There are six stockpiles of salt for PennDOT's 62 plow trucks in Washington County and five anti-icing trucks to deal with just over 2,500 miles of road.

At the Busy Beaver Hardware Store in Washington, workers were getting the shovels, salt and scrapers ready for customers.

"People come into the store looking for salt, ice scrapers, shovels -- anything they need to help get them through the storm," said Dane Leach, assistant manager.

PennDOT spends about $5.3 million every winter to deal with snow in Washington County.

Butler County

Butler County plans on getting more snow than other areas, possibly up to 2 inches.

PennDOT representatives said they have plenty of supplies and are ready to roll out on the roads when the snow starts to fall.

The trucks are already loaded up with supplies.

Cranberry Township officials are staying ahead of the next winter storm.

The Cranberry Township Public Works Director says crews have pre-treated the roads using a liquid-brine.

If conditions worsen, 17 trucks will treat the roads Thursday night into Friday.

Trucks are stocked with both rock salt and a liquid brine.

The township has 6,500 tons of salt on hand, and officials say they aren’t worried about running out.

Fayette County

PennDOT will have 42 plow trucks and one anti-icing truck in Fayette County.

Westmoreland County

Crews will be treating more than 2,700 miles of road using 10 stockpiles of salt and 68 trucks.
