CRESCENT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — CRESCENT TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A father and son are receiving assistance from the Red Cross after their home was destroyed by fire, officials said.
The fire broke out early Sunday morning on Crest Drive in Crescent Township.
Neighbor Joanna Mosca called 911 when she noticed an orange glow and realized the home was on fire.

“It was flaring right up into the sky,” Mosca said.
Crescent Township Fire Chief Michael Scheers said the home was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
The father and son who lived in the home got out safely. Officials evacuated neighbors on either side as a precaution.

“They said, ‘You have to go because it could come over this way and we have to get you out,’” Mosca said.
Several hours after crews were first called, they had to return to the scene to put out hot spots after the fire rekindled.
An Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
The father and son are staying with a friend.
