A fire broke out early Monday morning at an apartment building in Pittsburgh’s Perry North neighborhood.
The fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. on Waldorf Street.
Smoke could be seen coming from the back of the building when a Channel 11 News crew arrived at the scene.

“I smelled burning paper and when you opened the door it was so much smoke you couldn't see anything,” Mary Howard, a resident, said. “Had to walk all the way around because it was too much smoke to go down the steps.”
Maurice Thomas, who also lives in the building, told Channel 11’s Gabriella DeLuca that he ran to a nearby fire station to alert firefighters.
Fire officials said everyone got out of the building and no one was injured.
