Garfield shooting victim dies after being placed on life support

PITTSBURGH — A man who was put on life support after a shooting early Saturday morning in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood has died, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Police were called about 2 a.m. Saturday to a residence in the 400 block of North Aiken Avenue after they received reports that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 20-year-old Romeke Freeman, of McKees Rocks, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Freeman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition and placed on life support, police said. He died Saturday afternoon.

The Group Violence Intervention Unit is continuing the investigation.
