Greenfield Bridge celebrates reopening with day-long festivities

GREENFIELD, Pa. — The Greenfield Bridge is officially reopening Sunday, and it has been a long-time coming.

The old bridge was demolished in 2015 after opening in the 1920s. By the time it was closed for good, the old bridge was covered in graffiti and filled with potholes.

Nearly two years later, the new, state-of-the-art Greenfield Bridge is reopening to traffic.

The festivities to celebrate the event began at 11 a.m. Saturday, with a “Beat the Bridge Fun Run” from Greenfield to Schenley Park. At noon, there was a Zumba class on the new bridge. Currently, the “Kids Plus Children’s Fetival” is going on.

At 2 p.m., the main event – “The Bridge is Back!” – begins.

According to the Greenfield Community Association website, the event will feature “food trucks and free games such as miniature golf and giant block-stacking, an even larger ring toss, a rock climbing wall and adult-sized big wheels.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, with the Mayor’s Office and distinguished guests commemorating the new bridge. A small parade will follow the ribbon cutting, along with the uplighting of the bridge.

The bridge is scheduled to officially open to traffic on Sunday.
