Handgun sought in weekend incident recovered from Westmoreland Co. pond

DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A handgun believed to be connected to an incident over the weekend was recovered Tuesday from a pond in Westmoreland County, authorities said.

The .40 caliber Smith & Wesson was found by dive teams during a search of the pond on the property of the Derry Rod & Gun Club in Derry Township.

Pennsylvania State Police confirmed Wednesday that the gun was sought in relation to a fight Saturday on Coal Hollow Road in Salem Township. Charges were filed against two men: Issac Hill Jr. and Cole Wano.

A man was allegedly intoxicated and unable to drive when he tried to leave a party. Police said Hill got the gun from Wano and fired one round in the direction of the man.

Investigators found spent shell casings at the scene, but did not locate the gun until Tuesday.

Police said Wano should not have had the gun in the first place. Hill is facing charges for firing the gun and endangering people.
