Injured bald eagle found in Armstrong County dies

An injured bald eagle found in Armstrong County a week ago died at a northwestern Pennsylvania clinic.

The Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center announced the bird’s death on Sunday

“Banded as a young bird in 1987, he was father to many eaglets and helped repopulate eagles in our state,” the clinic said. “Officials believe he was brought from Saskatchewan for reintroduction efforts, at a time when there were only three nests of eagles in PA.”

Nicknamed “Kiski” for the township

the bird was captured Aug. 13 by a state parks ranger and eventually taken to the clinic in Crawford County, where he was diagnosed with lead poisoning.

It’s believed he ingested a bullet while eating the carcass of an animal shot by a hunter,

for the state’s bald eagle population.
