Kennywood Park adding Thomas and Friends rides, show and entertainment

Construction is underway at the new Thomas the Train attraction at Kennywood that is expected to be ready by mid-summer.

PITTSBURGH — Kennywood is getting a big addition this year. Thomas Town is opening within the park.

ALL ABOARD! Great news for families who love Kennywood Park and Thomas & Friends

It’ll feature Thomas the Tank Engine, all of his friends and some destinations from the Island of Sodor.

Thomas Town will include four new family rides, plus re-theming The Olde Kennywood Rail Road into a Thomas & Friends story. There will also be a retail center, soft-play area, Birthday Center, and the entertainment show featuring Thomas' friends Percy, James, Emily and Gordon.

All of the attractions will be in the area of the Olde Kennywood Rail Road.

"Thomas Town presents a huge addition that expands our family offerings while introducing the park to Thomas & Friends fans from around the globe. We couldn't ask for a better gift for Kennywood and our guests to help celebrate our 120th anniversary season in 2018."

The new Thomas Town will debut this summer.

According to a release by Kennywood, it will be the second-largest permanent Thomas and Friends attraction in North America.
