“I can think of no greater compliment than to say Officer Bashioum embodied what it means to be a public servant. Renaming the Canonsburg Post Office after Officer Bashioum is a small yet important step we can take to honor his life and legacy,” said Toomey.

Bashioum was killed Nov. 10 while responding to a domestic violence call.

He was a 7-year veteran of the Canonsburg Police Department after a 25-year career in the U.S. Air Force. Bashioum also served as assistant chief of the Slovan Fire Department.

"Renaming this post office is one way to express our profound gratitude for the sacrifice of Officer Bashioum," said Casey.

Bashioum was a married father of four.

According to  Murphy, Bashioum’s brother approached him with the idea to rename the post office.

“Naming his hometown post office as the 'Police Officer Scott Bashioum Post Office Building' is a fitting tribute to all that he did for the community he loved so dearly and this nation he honorably served,” Murphy said
