Man charged in death of 4-year-old boy tried to escape from prison, police say

BUTLER, Pa. — A man who is charged with homicide in the death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son tried to escape from the Butler County Prison, according to police.

Jordan Lambing, 20, is facing a new charge of escape after police said they found out about his plan during a call he made to his grandmother.

According to court papers obtained by Channel 11 News, police said Lambing called his grandmother on March 28 and told her, “I got a note I'm going to show you when you come in and stuff, all right?”

His grandmother responded, "OK. All right. Yeah." Lambing then said, "I can't really talk, you know."

Later that day, police said a corrections officer found a note in Lambing’s cell referring to someone who could help him to “snip cuffs” while being transported to the courthouse for a hearing.

The note said, “They don’t lock the paddy wagon door. Get Tyler to get a crew to open,” according to the complaint.

Lambing is being held in a private cell. The prosecuting attorney said additional precautions will now be taken, including court appearances through video so Lambing never has to leave the jail.

Lambing was arrested on March 22 after police said he sexually assaulted Bentley Miller, 4, which caused severe injuries that led to the boy’s death.
