Man dead after being pulled from backyard pool

SOUTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man found floating face down in a backyard swimming pool died Thursday evening at an area hospital.

According to our partners at TribLive.com, Jason Kukonik, 50, died at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Washington County. State police troopers said Kukonik was found in the 4-foot pool at about 5 p.m. Thursday. Troopers said he suffered a medical event while in the water.

The homeowner, Richard Martinelli, and emergency crews tried to perform CPR before Kukonik was taken to the hospital.

TribLive.com reports Kukonik and Martinelli were friends, and Kukonik was in the water while Martinelli was changing the filter.
