Veteran found dead in bedroom after apartment building fire in Kittanning

KITTANNING, Pa. — A man died Friday morning when a fire burned at an apartment building in Armstrong County, officials said.

Fire crews were called just after 2:30 a.m. to North Jefferson Street in Kittanning.

John W. Bodurka, Jr., 69, was found dead in a second-floor bedroom, Fire Chief Gene Stephens said. The landlord said the Bodurka was a veteran.

Flames were shooting from a window on the second floor when firefighters got to the scene. Officials said the fire appears to have been contained to the Bodurka’s bedroom.

At least a dozen people live in the building, which is made up of four apartments. They are not able to return to their homes right away, according to Stephens.

No one else was hurt during the fire.

A fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
