Man pleads guilty in DUI crash that killed bicyclist in Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A man pleaded guilty Monday to charges in a 2019 DUI crash that killed a bicyclist in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood.

Thomas Morton’s vehicle struck 22-year-old Austin Fike along Brookline Boulevard on Oct. 20, 2019. Fike was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Fike was riding to McDonald’s to get his son something to eat when he was struck, according to his family and friends.

Morton pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, accidents involving death or injury while not licensed and driving under the influence.

In exchange for the plea, a charge of homicide by vehicle while DUI was withdrawn.

Morton’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 17.
