WAYNESBURG, Pa. — A man shot by a police officer has been charged with attempted homicide and other crimes.
State troopers are investigating the shooting involving a Waynesburg police officer and 31-year-old Julius Hurt.
A caller told 911 there was an unruly man near the Greene County Courthouse about 1 a.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they said, Hurt ran. They ordered Hurt to the ground, but instead of complying, he pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers, according to a criminal complaint.
One officer fired at Hurt, striking him in the lower leg.

“Even after being shot (and) the officer attempted to place him into custody, a struggle ensued and he was eventually placed in cuffs," said Trooper Forrest Allison.
Troopers said two handguns were found on the ground near Hurt. One, a 45 caliber revolver, had been reported stolen from a sheriff's office in Wetzel County, West Virginia.
Hurt was taken to a hospital before being arraigned on criminal charges.
The officer who shot him has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice in an officer-involved shooting.
