More wet weather, possibly strong storms Friday

11 p.m. UPDATE:

More wet weather will move in Friday, bringing the risk for heavy rain and damaging winds.

Friday the risk for strong storms will go up as a cold front moves through the area.

A few thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening will bring wind gusts in excess of 40 mph, torrential downpours and hail.

5:37 p.m. UPDATE:

Streets Run Road in Baldwin is covered in mud and debris.

4:42 p.m. UPDATE: 

The flash flood warning has been extended to Washington County. Flooding was also reported in Allegheny County.

Flash flood safety tips:

  • Turn around, don't drown
  • Don't drive around barricades
  • One foot of water can float a car
  • Head for higher ground
  • Save yourself, not your possessions

4:32 p.m. UPDATE: 

Officials said the downed tree on Mount Nebo Road was not weather-related. Two cars were damaged.

4:27 p.m. UPDATE: 

Flooding was also reported on State Route 51 in Pleasant Hills/Jefferson Hills, where a portion of the northbound lane was closed.

McKnight Road/Siebert Road was closed due to the road being flooded, and flooding was reported on Lebanon Church Road.

4:14 p.m. UPDATE: 

The Port Authority of Pittsburgh said Bus Route 56 is unable to service Ramp and Baldwin Road because of flooding. Buses will stay on 885 Mifflin Road.

All on-duty flood response teams in the city are being requested to respond to Baldwin Road. Basements were also flooded in Baldwin.

4:05 p.m. UPDATE

A tree crashed down on power lines on Mount Nebo Road in Allegheny County. Power is out for homes and businesses nearby, and the road is closed. Officials with Duquesne Light said service is expected to be restored within a couple of hours.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Allegheny County until 6:45 p.m.

On-and-off rain and storms will close out the week, with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms crossing through the area Friday night.

A flash flood watch has been announced for areas south of Interstate 70 until 8 a.m. Friday.

Any storms that develop Thursday will be very slow-moving, leading to prolonged periods of heavy rain.
