Mother gunned down outside car, 7-month-old survives

PITTSBURGH — A mother was shot and killed while holding her 7-month-old baby in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood.

Police found the woman in a grassy area not far from the intersection of Strauss and North Charles streets around 11:15 p.m. Sunday. She lived nearby.

She was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and died at the hospital, police said.

The medical examiner identified the victim as Nicole Dailey, 26, of Pittsburgh.

Channel 11 spoke with Gelisa Boner, who was a friend of Dailey’s since childhood.

The two attended college together at Slippery Rock University, and Boner told Channel 11 how Dailey will be remembered.

“(Dailey was) just so happy, very bubbly, excited about life,” Boner said.

Members of the Destiny of Faith church, where Dailey attended, said she recently attended a meeting on how to help stop the violence in the community – and she was in the choir.

Neighbors said they are hoping surveillance cameras located on several buildings where the shooting occurred will help investigators locate and arrest the person who killed Dailey.

Police have not named any suspects in this case.

A good Samaritan picked up Dailey’s seven-month old child who, according to police, did not appear to be injured.

Police said it was unclear if Dailey was getting into or out of her car with her child when she was shot. She was not very far from her home when she was shot.
