OpenStreetsPGH rolling through Lawrenceville, Strip this weekend

The last

of the summer is coming this weekend.

After popping up in the South Side and West End earlier this year, the popular event will take over the streets of the Strip District and Lawrenceville from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Bike Pittsburgh, which organizes the event, estimates 25,000 people will participate, taking advantage of closed thoroughfares to walk, job, bike and skate freely through Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods.

Streets will begin closing at 8 a.m. Cars parked along the route must be moved before 3 a.m. Sunday or they will be towed. No parking signs will be placed along the route on Thursday.

The following streets will be closed: Market Street from Market Square to Liberty Avenue; Sixth Street from Liberty to Penn Avenue; Penn Avenue from Sixth Street to 34th Street; and Butler Street from 34th Street to Plummer Street.

Roadways will reopen promptly at 1:30 p.m.

Eleven monitored intersections will be available for vehicles to cross the route: Fifth Avenue and Market Street; Liberty Avenue and Sixth Street; Penn Avenue and Seventh, 10th, 11th, 16th, 21st, 26th and 31st streets; and Butler Avenue and 40th and 44th streets.
