Pirates to host children, families Friday for childhood cancer awareness

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates will host 25 very special guests as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Night on Friday night at PNC Park.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a pregame head-shaving event with players, coaches and front office employees that will benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and its mission to conquer childhood cancers, according to a press release.

The "2017 BaseBALD Challenge,” presented by the Pirates and Sports Clips, will be in the PNC Park Press Conference Room.  The Pirate's Charities will make a donation to St. Baldrick’s Foundation for every head shaved.

There will also be a “superhero-hemed” V.I.P. (Very Important Pirate) party for 25 children battling pediatric cancer and their families hosted by Pirates Charities and Chick-Fil-A.

Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero as the evening.

Each of the 25 children will be recognized on-field during a pregame ceremony around 6:40 p.m. and will be given their very own Pirates superhero cape by a member of the team to assist them in their fight.

The children and their families will enjoy the game from a PNC Park World Series Suite and will enjoy a dinner fit for a superhero, custom created by Levy Cares.
