Police charge pair with hindering search for suspect in officer's fatal shooting

Police charged a New Kensington mother and daughter on Tuesday with hindering the search for Rahmael Holt, the suspect in Officer Brian Shaw’s fatal shooting.

According to a criminal complaint, Holt ran to Lakita Caine’s home on Victoria Avenue after shooting Shaw two blocks away around 8 p.m. Friday night. Caine and her daughter, Taylor Mitchell, heard gunshots and Holt entered their home moments later.

Holt told Caine he had to leave the area, according to the complaint.

The next day, Lisa Harrington, Holt’s cousin, came to the house and told Caine that the gun Holt used in the shooting was still in the home, according to the complaint. She went to the basement and retrieved a brown paper bag.

When two FBI agents interviewed Caine and Mitchell later that day, the women said they had not seen Holt since Thursday, according to the complaint.

When a Westmoreland County police detective and FBI agent interviewed Caine on Monday night, she admitted she had previously lied to investigators.

It wasn't immediately clear from the complaint how Holt knows Caine and Mitchell.
