Police investigating home invasion near Pitt campus

PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating an early Saturday morning home invasion that happened near the University of Pittsburgh campus.

The victims of the home invasion, which happened about 3 a.m. on Dawson Street, told police that three men were involved. The men entered the home through a back door.

Palak Desai, a senior at Pitt, said he and other students who live on the 3400 block of Dawson Street are keeping a close watch after the incident.

“I didn’t know what to think. I expected it to be a good neighborhood,” Desai said. “It’s not something you expect to hear but when you hear about a gun robbery, you have to start locking your doors now.”

Fred DeluIiis, who owns several properties on Dawson Street, said he was going door to door warning his tenants about the recent robbery.

“I am concerned. It’s unusual for people to carry guns around here. Very seldom I see a weapon involved,” Deluliis said. “I tell them, not to try to scare them, but about what is available out there if you don’t take precautions.”

Precautions including making sure they always stay alert and to watch who they invite into their homes.

The men, described as white, black and Hispanic, had bandanas covering their faces. The black man had a silver handgun, the victims told police.

A backpack and a laptop were stolen from the home.

No one was injured.
