Police: Man used Pinterest to send porn to 12-year-old with autism

EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A sexually violent predator used Pinterest to befriend a 12-year-old girl with autism and send her child pornography, police said.

According to a criminal complaint, the girl's mother contacted police when she found that Earl Crumb of East Pittsburgh had befriended her daughter using the social networking site.

Crumb was commenting on photos the girl was sharing about hair styles and nail art. He was showing the girl his account which contained pornography, young women and anti-Christ message, the complaint said.

Crumb was arrested at his East Pittsburgh apartment Friday morning. Despite knowing he was a registered sex offender, neighbors were surprised by the allegations.

"He's a very good guy, would help you do anything. I'm really shocked right now at this, said one neighbor.

The apartment building is one that’s well-known to police. The East Pittsburgh police chief told Channel 11’s Aaron Martin that 24 registered sex offenders live in the 30-room apartment building. Eight of them, like Crumb, are considered sexually violent predators.

Neighbors said there are very few places that accept sex offenders in Allegheny County, adding that incidents like this make it more difficult for those trying to get their lives on track.

"Some of the people who actually do live here are trying to better themselves, we've all made mistakes and this makes it harder for us," another neighbor said.

Crumb is only charged with failing to comply with sex offender requirements, but a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said more charges could be coming.
