No injuries were reported.

The man was black and about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a two-tone blue Puma jacket with a white stripe, a Pirates baseball cap and a glove.

Word about the robbery spread quickly through the community.

"When you hear stuff like that, it's very disconcerting about where our society is," said resident Netty Hoffman.

Hoffman said crime in Shaler is rare, especially a bank robbery, but said these are different times.

"People are more desperate," Hoffman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Shaler Township Police Department Detective Stelitano at 412-492-2222 ext. 422 or the Pittsburgh Field Office of the FBI.
