UPDATE (3:30 PM Saturday) After a 14-hour negotiations session Saturday, the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers said "some progress" was made."
In a short release Saturday, the federation said the state mediator ended the session after 14 hours. Another meeting is scheduled for next week.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Negotiations between Pittsburgh teachers and the school district progressed enough Friday that the union said it will hold off on any plans to strike for now.
The sides did not come to an agreement, but will meet again sometime next week to continue negotiating.
"We started at 9:30 this morning," said Ira Weiss, solicitor for Pittsburgh Public Schools. "We made progress, we'll meet again next week.
"Of course, there will be no strike Monday."
