Protest planned for outside Google's office in Bakery Square

PITTSBURGH — A group is organizing a protest against Google in Pittsburgh's Bakery Square.

It’s over alleged censorship by the company.

Target 11 spoke with the mayor's office Monday afternoon.

They are aware of the protest outside of Google scheduled for Saturday and they say they are preparing for it.

TRENDING NOW:

This is all part of the March on Google that's taking place in nine cities to protest what organizers say is Google's anti-white male diversity policy.

A Google employee who leaked a memo about hiring practices was fired and that sparked the call for protests.

Now, the group condemned the violence in Virginia over the weekend and say they are not affiliated with any hate organization.

The group has not applied for a permit to protest.

Mayor Bill Peduto issued this statement in response to the announcement: "We have been monitoring social media and intelligence reports regarding potential right wing protests this weekend in Pittsburgh. However, we have not received any event permit requests nor confirmed whether any such protests will actually occur. We are preparing our public safety resources and are engaging with our community stakeholders. As Pittsburghers, we have zero tolerance for violence or hatred, and we will do everything in our power to keep our city's residents safe. While we must respect First Amendment rights, let me be clear: those spreading hate, fear and violence are not welcome in our city."
