Remains found in wooded area in Pittsburgh's North Side identified

PITTSBURGH — Authorities have identified skeletal remains that were found last week in a wooded area in Pittsburgh’s North Side, police said.

The remains of 60-year-old Calvin Gilmore were found behind Northview Heights Estates, on Hazlett Street.

The discovery was made by Tamara Jones, who was with her son’s father.

“We walked over there and we see a human skull at the bottom of the hill,” Jones said.

Jones sits on the Northview Heights Tenant Council and said finding the skeleton is yet a another reason she wants the Housing Authority to step up security in the area, including adding a fence along Hazlett Street.

“My daughter lives right here, and my grandkids play back here every day,” Jones said.

The cause and manner of death are pending.
