Second person charged in attack on Pittsburgh teacher

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have now charged a second person accused of attacking King pre-K-8 teacher Janice Watkins.

Vincent Beasley, the boyfriend of suspect Daishonta Williams, is expected to turn himself in early Tuesday.

Beasley is facing charges including aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and stalking.

Police said Beasley and Williams targeted Watkins, after she took away Williams' daughter's cellphone at school.

Watkins' children told Channel 11 the child allegedly bit her during the confrontation.

A parent teacher conference followed and things turned ugly..

Paperwork states the couple followed Watkins from school and then attacked her near the West End Bridge-throwing a brick at her and then dragging her out of her car and beating on her.

She had to be taken to Allegheny General Hospital twice for treatment, including a lost tooth, busted up lip and head pain.

Police said Watkins told them Beasley "pulled her head back by yanking her hair."

"The male did then join in on the attack, using kicks and punches to the body and face of Ms. Watkins," according to the criminal complaint.

Watkins told police he eventually pulled them apart. His attorney says he was only there to stop the brawl.

"My client doesn't assault the teacher. I believe he pulls them apart to stop them from a fight," Al Burke, the attorney for Vincent Beasley, said.

The complaint goes on to say Williams told Watkins "B****, I told you I was gonna get you."

Williams is facing aggravated assault, stalking, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment charges.
