Shots fired into car fatally wound man in Homewood

PITTSBURGH — A man who was shot multiple times early Saturday in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood died at a hospital, police said.

Officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. to the 1000 block of Blackadore Avenue after receiving a ShotSpotter alert. About 10 minutes later, a woman called 911 to report that her car had been shot and she was driving a man who was wounded to the hospital.

The man, 33-year-old Michael Leonard, of McKeesport, was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. at UPMC Mercy Hospital, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators said it is believed that the car was parked along Blackadore Avenue when someone approached, opened a door and began shooting.

Police are investigating.
