Woman undergoes fourth transplant, receives kidney from mother

A woman received a kidney from her mother after going through a double lung transplant last year.

When Morgan Yoney, 24, needed a kidney transplant, her mother was quick to offer her own. Though, she was not as quick to take the credit.

“My bigger fear was losing her, so it wasn't an act of bravery,” said Tammy Yoney. “It was selfish; I didn't want to lose my kid.”

Morgan suffers from cystic fibrosis, and her doctors said the transplant was part of her ongoing treatment.

Her kidneys failed because of transplants and immunosuppression, which isn’t uncommon, according to Dr. Amit Tevar – who completed the transplant.

This kidney transplant was actually Morgan's fourth transplant. Besides the lungs she got last year, Morgan had a liver and lung transplant when she was 15.

Morgan told Channel 11 she was extremely grateful for her mother’s act.

“My mom is my best friend, and it means a lot that she would go through all that to give me a second chance at life again,” Morgan said.

Her mother said she felt “blessed” to be able to give her that second chance.

Tammy has already been discharged, and her daughter will likely go home tomorrow.
