Dog believed to be the world's oldest dies peacefully at 30

Maggie the Kelpie, who was considered to be the world's oldest dog, died in Australia Sunday.

According to The Weekly Times, she passed away peacefully in her basket overnight.

Her owner, Brian McLauren, said that Maggie was "tucked up in her bed" Sunday evening and he found her the following day still in her basket.

"She was 30 years old. She was still going along nicely last week. She was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing. She just went downhill in two days and I said yesterday morning when I went home for lunch, 'She hasn't got long now.' I'm sad, but I'm pleased she went the way she went," McLaren told the Weekly Times.

Using dog years, Maggie lived to be 210 years old, twice the life expectency of most dogs.

The Guinness Book of World Records claims that 'Bluey', also from Australia, holds the record at 29. Maggie doesn't have any paperwork so her age cannot be verified.
