RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A New Jersey middle school student was arrested Friday after police said he attacked the school's principal with a knife during a graduation rehearsal.
Kurt Schweitzer, principal of the Union School in Rutherford, was leading the eighth grade class during a morning rehearsal when he was attacked by a 14-year-old male student, who was carrying a folded knife, the website reported. The boy struck Schweitzer's chest several times, police said.
A teacher disarmed the boy and took him to a police officer assigned to the school, News12NewJersey reported.
"At no time was anyone else attacked during the incident," the Rutherford Police Department said on its Facebook page.
The teen is facing several charges, including aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, WABC reported.
