Trip to chiropractor led to former model's death, coroner says

LOS ANGELES — A coroner in Los Angeles has ruled on the death of a former Playboy model and social media star with Pittsburgh ties.

Pleasant Hills native Katie May died in February after suffering a stroke. She was 34 years old.

Assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said the stroke was the result of an injury she sustained after a visit to the chiropractor.

Her neck was manipulated, tearing her left vertebral artery. The injury decreased blood flow to her brain.

May had gone to the chiropractor for an adjustment after a fall.

"I would have never, ever in a million years imagined I could lose my baby sister to something like this," her sister Jenny McKerrow said.

May's death was ruled accidental and no charges have been filed against the chiropractor.

She leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter.
