Woman charged with attempted murder in intentional hit-and-run of teen

ROCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A teenage boy was flown to a hospital Wednesday after authorities say a young woman intentionally struck him with a vehicle in Rochester Township.

Authorities told Channel 11’s Amy Marcinkiewicz that they arrested Lyric Mason, 19, in connection with the hit-and-run that was reported around 3:45 p.m. in the area of 775 Virginia Ave.

Police said Mason is being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

“It was intentional. She did it on purpose,” Rochester Township Officer Kevin Foltz said.

The victim, 15-year-old Jordan Thompson, was flown from the scene to a hospital. His mother told Marcinkiewicz that he has bleeding on his brain.

Rochester Township police said Jordan was walking on Virginia Avenue when Mason veered into the opposite lane that she was driving in and hit him.

“I can't imagine it because it did happen. She intentionally mowed down this young man who was walking down the road,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Eric Hernick with the Butler crime unit said.

Investigators said Jordan’s head hit the windshield of Mason’s vehicle, throwing him 20 feet before he landed in the middle of the road. Jordan’s parents said he suffered severe head trauma, a concussion and needed seven stitches in his head.

“The motive seems to be revenge of some sort,” Hernick said.

Channel 11 News learned that Mason, a Slippery Rock University student, filed a report last week with Beaver Falls police, saying Jordan broke into her house and stole a pair of shoes.

Jordan’s parents said they don’t believe Mason’s allegations.

“He’s a good kid. (He) didn’t deserve this. He'll pull through,” Jordan’s stepmother, Brittany Thompson, said.

Authorities continue to look into Mason’s claims about the theft.
