Woman nearly shot in face after confronting intruder in her Brookline home

PITTSBURGH — A woman told Channel 11 News she was nearly shot in the face Thursday night after she ran into an intruder in her Brookline home.

"He was aiming to kill, not hurt me. There was intent to kill me,” homeowner Bridget Ryan said.

Pittsburgh police said a masked man broke into Ryan’s Plainview Avenue home while Ryan and her husband were sleeping. Ryan said she heard her dogs barking, got out of bed and approached the intruder, thinking it was her son, who lives with her.

"I stepped back into bedroom and said, ‘It’s not our son.’ And as I said that, a bullet came whizzing by my face,” she said.

Authorities said the masked man quickly left empty-handed.

“Keep your hands off. It's mine. I've worked very hard for it,” Ryan said.

She credited her 10-year-old dogs for alerting her in the first place.

"Tango and Cash went after them, and I wasn't too far behind,” she said.

Ryan said her privacy was invaded, but she said she’s not going to live in fear.

"Better luck next time, (expletive), she said.

No arrests have been made in the home invasion. Ryan said she and her family are working in close connection with police to help catch the intruder.
