Woman upset about manhole she says burned her foot gets help from @PGH311

PITTSBURGH — A woman said steam coming from a manhole in downtown Pittsburgh burned her foot.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said other people told her they were burned, too.

She tweeted a request.  The city responded.

"We got the request and decided to act on it.  We know that it's not something typical to report, and we actually had someone go down and check it out," officials said.

Jake Minton, who is one of the people behind Pittsburgh's 311 Twitter account, said the manhole cover belongs to Allegheny County Thermal.  The company was notified.

"In less than 24 hours, this Pittsburgh resident was able to get something done," said Minton.

Thousands of complaints have been handled via @PGH311 since it was created in February.
