Dolphins suspend former Steeler Timmons indefinitely after Saturday disappearance

MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday the team has suspended former Pittsburgh Steeler Lawrence Timmons indefinitely.

The news comes after his disappearance last weekend.

The Dolphins made the announcement in a seven-word tweet.

It's an indefinite suspension, but according to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, it cannot last more than four weeks.

The suspension also eliminates any remaining guarantees in Timmons' contract.

According to Pro Football Talk, Timmons will lose about $58,000 a week and may be required to pay back about $650,000, a portion of this year's allocation of his $5 million signing bonus.

Timmons was reportedly dealing with a personal matter and was to have met with team doctors Monday.

Neither Timmons nor the Dolphins are providing any specifics.

Timmons played ten years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the team has told Channel 11 it will not be commenting.
