Steelers name four team captains for 2016 season

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday announced the 2016 season team captains, who were selected through a vote among teammates.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will serve as the offensive captain, cornerback William Gay and defensive end Cameron Heyward will serve as the defensive captains and safety Robert Golden will serve as the special teams captain.

This season will mark Roethlisberger’s eighth as a team captain, having previously served in the role every year since 2008, with the exception of 2010.

Meanwhile, 2016 will be Golden's third consecutive year as a captain. It will be the second time for Gay and Heyward.

Roethlisberger, Gay, Heyward and Golden were also named captains alongside one another for the 2015 season.
