Steelers rookie James Conner interacts with fans, baby at autograph signing

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back James Conner signed autographs for fans Saturday morning at the Giant Eagle in Moon Township.

Saturday’s autograph session was Conner’s first public appearance in Pittsburgh since he was drafted by the Steelers. He interacted with fans young and old -- including a baby.

Fans started lining up at 7 a.m. for the opportunity to chat with Conner, who said, “Wow! I guess they like me around here!” with a giant smile on his face.

The former Pitt star inspired people as he fought and beat cancer. Now, as a Steeler, his No. 30 jersey recently ranked as the NFL's second-best-selling.

Conner said he's blown away by how popular his jersey has become in just a couple of months. But as the jerseys fly off the racks, he said he knows he still has a lot to prove on the field.

“My past is all the motivation I need,” Conner said. “I can't wait to get out there.”

Conner admits he's nervous for his first NFL training camp, but calls it a “dream come true.”
