Peduto, San Jose mayor place friendly wager on Stanley Cup Final

Mayor Sam Liccardo vs. Mayor Bill Peduto

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto made a friendly bet with San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo ahead of Monday’s kickoff to the 2016 Stanley Cup Final.

The losing mayor will make a donation to the winning mayor’s charity of choice and must post a photo on social media wearing the captain’s jersey of the opposing team on the day following the final game of the series.

The jersey will also be donated to the winning mayor’s charity of choice to be auctioned off as a fundraiser.

Already in place are the selections for both mayor’s charities.

Peduto chose the Hill House Association, while Liccardo chose Destination: Home.

“As a hockey fan I have a lot of respect for any team that makes it to the Cup Final,” Peduto said. “Pittsburgh is very proud of the Penguins but we know they still have more work to do. When it comes to the Penguins and Sharks, sharks may control the waters but we all know that penguins dominate on the ice.”

The losing mayor will send a gift basket full of local treats to the winner of the wager.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final series begins Monday night at Consol Energy Center. The puck drops at 8 p.m.
