Ones to Watch: Jessie Diggins

BEIJING, China — Jessie Diggins was the first U.S. woman to win a gold medal in cross country skiing. She did it in dramatic fashion, with a come-from-behind photo finish in South Korea in 2018.

This time around, she is a veteran who is ready to lead a young American team and leave it all on the line.

“The reason I’m willing to go that far into the pain cave, and willing to absolutely destroy my body for the team is because then I know, without any doubt whatsoever, that I’ve left no stone unturned,” she said. “I don’t ever want to have to ask myself, What if?”

Diggins competed in all six Olympic cross-country evenings in Pyeongchang.

She hasn’t made a final decision yet, but she hopes to do that again in Beijing.
