Flash flooding closes area roadways

PITTSBURGH — UPDATE (11 p.m.)

Severe weather tore through Hays and flash flooding put people in direct danger.

Channel 11 captured video of almost a foot of standing water at Baldwin Road and Glass Run Road.

TRENDING NOW:

The two streets were temporarily shut down in an effort to keep people safe.

That was also the case at the intersection of Glass Run Road and Mifflin Road.

The road looked like a river as it streamed toward oncoming traffic.

We talked to a woman who was almost trapped in those rushing waters.

“I just wanted to go and get my family something to eat, get our dogs to our new home, and just try to finish unpacking, and they told me I had to wait at least 20 minutes before I could possibly cross the road,” Letisha Moore said. “I just want to go home.”

The muddy mess will need to be cleaned up in the coming days.

No one was hurt in the flash flooding.

UPDATE (6:20p.m.)

Widespread showers and potential storms continue to push through the Pittsburgh area Thursday.

The Storm Prediction Center has the entire WPXI-TV viewing area under a marginal risk for severe weather. Any storms that develop could include heavy, flooding downpours and damaging winds.

Flooding has already been an issue across many cities, so additional rainfall can cause even more concern.

Showers and storms will taper off as the night goes on. An isolated shower is possible early Friday but much of the day should be dry.

A few rounds of showers and storms return for both days of the weekend. Temperatures and humidity will remain high as well.
